Minutes

 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Rosewall, Lichtenberg, Utley, Steele, Donoghue, Egan, Gilmore, Gerlach, Merrick, Rudnitzki, Jasper, Alden, Tenerelli, Corriveau

EXCUSED:  Jones-Bey, Powless, Sigman

 

President Rosewall called the meeting to order at 11:07 a.m.

 

President Rosewall welcomed Phil Corriveau back to the board as he resumes his duties as Director of Radio.  Corriveau thanked the board and staff for their support during his time out due to illness.

 

Gilmore/Egan MOTION to approve January, 2009 Board Meeting Minutes.  APPROVED

 

Discussion of 990 Policies

  • Rudnitzki/Merrick MOTION to approve 990 policies as presented by staff.  APPROVED

 

Board Operations Committee report provided by Steele.

  • Steele/Gilmore MOTION to appoint Richard Egan to fill the unexpired term left vacant by the death of Earline “Lee” Bock for the elected position representing the Northeastern Region, with a term to expire June, 2010.  APPROVED.
  • Steele/Rudnitzki MOTION to appoint Gary Lichtenberg to a new four year term on the board, expiring in June, 2013.  APPROVED.
  • Reported out four potential candidates for three appointed positions on the board.  A secret ballot resulted in the election of Dean Dietrich, Wausau; Anne Katz, Madison and Margie Shurgot, Oneida to appointed terms, expiring in June 2013.
  • Steele/Donoghue MOTION to appoint the following slate of officers for the 2009-2010 years:  President-Ellen Rosewall; Vice-President, Gary Lichtenberg; Secretary-Joan Rudnitzki; Treasurer-Bill Merrick.  APPROVED

 

Finance Committee report provided by Merrick

  • Merrick/Gilmore MOTION to provide preliminary approval to the FY 2010 draft budget, with final approval slated for the September meeting.  APPROVED.

 

Joint Finance/Development Committees report provided by Rudnitzki

  • Rudnitzki/Donoghue MOTION to extend the duties of the task force consisting of Rudnitzki, Gilmore, Alden plus staff members Mary Kay Sherer and Patty Stockdale to define the role of a proposed future ad hoc Endowment Subcommittee, in addition to duties previously charged to the task force.  APPROVED.

 

Development Committee report provided by Rudnitzki

  • Pilot effort by members of the committee to write letters to lapsed major donors deemed a success, with ten responses from 86 letters, resulting in $5,500. 
    • Committee now extending the invitation to any board member to send similar letters to lapsed major donors in their regions.
  • Committee members now intend to pilot a process of personalized Thank You letters to key donors.

 

Advocacy Committee report provided by Donoghue

  • Station visits held throughout the state in February and March were deemed a success.
    • Committee has decided such events should be annual.
  • Capitol visits by board members are scheduled for May 20.

 

The board marked the passing of director Lee Bock by enjoying a reading by Barbara Gilmore of Lee’s children’s book “Aw, Crumps

 

President Rosewall honored Richard Egan and Sheehan Donoghue for their years of work on the board with an autographed copy for Randall Davidson’s book about Wisconsin Public Radio “9XM.”

 

Gerlach/Lichtenberg MOTION to adjourn.  APPROVED.
